Authors and their works

Poetry, Prose, Verse and Dramatic Text are highlighted in this building, which pays tribute to the history of a street, known in the 19th century as a hotbed of Portuguese romanticism. Ex Libris, a Latin expression meaning "from the books of", is the name and inspiration behind No. 137 Rua da Misericórdia. The building's floors are brought to life with the presence of Portugal's literary giants, with each of the 18 apartments dedicated to a classic work from the authors featured. Here, Gil Vicente, Eça de Queiroz, Camilo Castelo Branco, Almeida Garrett, Fernando Pessoa and Luis de Camões and their works are portrayed through the eyes of a contemporary up-and-coming Portuguese artist.
